Dry Sauna
A dry sauna is exactly that.
A dry heat sauna is created by heating the sauna room via the electric or wood-fired heater but without the necessary components to allow for water to be poured onto the rocks causing steam to rise.
Dry saunas are often found in commercial situations such as gyms and hotels, or in smaller spaces such as apartment saunas.
Soft Sauna
A soft sauna is where water is poured over the heated stones of the sauna heater, thereby creating steam within the sauna. A soft sauna is a more humid sauna environment.
Traditionally wood-fired heaters were used, and are still available. A stone-filled electric heater is more common, where the user may pour water directly over the stones.
A tap is often located within the sauna at a low level and specific distance from the heater so the tap handle does not get hot to the touch.
